As any parent of a child who wears glasses knows (those at nonstopmama included), it can be all too easy to take for granted the blessing of having expert treatment for such important care so readily available. Especially when it comes to treating problems in the youngest of children, when it’s important to catch them as early as possible (if you’re in any doubt about a “maybe squint” or anything a bit different, don’t hesitate to press your G.P. for a specialist referral). Hence, spreading the word about the work of Vision Aid Overseas, a fantastic charity which aims to transform access to eyecare services in the developing world, is something we feel passionately about. Ten per cent of the world’s population (both adults and children, from seamstresses to school children) are visually impaired due to not having the glasses they need.
As well as welcoming donations and fundraising efforts to support its many eyecare programmes (click here for what they do), Vision Aid Overseas also runs a recycling scheme for old or unwanted glasses (more info here). This year is the charity’s 25th anniversary – what better time to help those helping those who so desperately need it?
