501 Days Out For Kids … Giveaway

July 21st, 2010

501 Days Out For Kids In The UK & IrelandThis giveaway is now closed and the winners have been informed.

Are we nearly there yet? In some cases, yes, and others, almost! With the summer hols upon us, what better giveaway than a big, glossy book filled with ideas for days out to suit all tastes and budgets – from big ride theme parks to museums and galleries, a bit of National Trust flora and fauna or a family-friendly farm or fun-packed beach resort. You’ll find it all in 501 Days Out For Kids In The UK & Ireland.

Put together by a team of writers, this is as much a coffee table book as it is a specialist travel guide (although, we warn you, leave it out to be flicked through and you’ll have no end of ‘requests’). With a destination per page and great photos throughout, it also features crucial details such as ‘Amount of Walking’ and ‘Best Time To Go’. It’s a great way of getting some fresh ideas, which you can then follow up online to check seasonal opening times, admission prices and so on.

We have two copies of 501 Days Out For Kids In The UK & Ireland to give away. All you need to do is be signed up to receive nonstopmama’s email updates (see top of page), ensuring that the email you give when you subscribe is the same you use to enter the giveaway below. It’s as simple as that!

Annabel Karmel giveaway and tips for nonstopmamas

May 17th, 2010

Annabel KarmelThis giveaway is now closed and the winners have been informed.

Nonstopmama last interviewed Annabel Karmel after the launch of The Princess Party Cookbook. Her latest book, Top 100 Pasta Dishes, has just been published and features as many takes on the busy family favourite –  making the most of pasta in all its shapes and sizes – including recipes for babies and toddlers. Featuring clear directions, tips aplenty and colour photos, it promises to be another classic, go-to guide for busy mums and a useful source of inspiration for doing pasta with a twist (sorry).

Here, Annabel shares some of her favourite time-saving tips with nonstopmama (and don’t miss the chance to win a copy of her latest book, below).

*  Freeze ahead. When cooking for the family, make several portions and pop some in the freezer for days when you don’t have time to cook. It’s also a good idea to freeze mini individual portions for children in ramekins.

*  Plan meals in advance to incorporate leftovers from the day before. For example, use left over roast chicken for a Chicken Caesar Salad the next day.

*  Keep frozen vegetables in your freezer – they are already prepared and easy to cook. They are frozen within hours of being cooked, so they are often more nutritious than vegetables that have been sitting on the supermarket shelf.

*  It’s a good idea to design a menu plan for the week ahead, before you do your supermarket shop. Not only will this save time when you are in the supermarket, it will also save you money.

*  Keep a notebook in the kitchen, so when you have used the last one of some particular ingredient or run out of something, you add it to the list.

*  If you freeze individual portions of fruit and vegetables in covered ice cube trays, you can make up your own combinations by defrosting two flavours together, e.g. apple and pear or sweet potato and broccoli. If you have friends with babies the same sort of age, you can each make up a batch of various foods and share them between you, so you can end up with six different flavours, for example, even if you have only made two.

Nonstopmama has two copies of Top 100 Pasta Dishes by Annabel Karmel to give away.

Heartland DVD Set Giveaway

April 27th, 2010

Heartland: The Complete First Season DVD Box SetThis giveaway is now closed and the winners have been informed.

Girls and ponies, ponies and girls … An award-winning TV series which nonstopmama has yet to catch up with, Heartland is a family drama set in the Canadian Rockies. Based on the bestselling novels by Louise Brooke, the action takes place on a ranch for rescued horses. The Fleming family are struggling to keep the rehoming centre running after the death of their mother, so daughter Lou gives up her job in New York to take up the helm, while her younger sister Amy finds she has inherited her mother’s “horse whispering” gift. Sounds like great mother-and-daughter, tissues-to-hand material to us.

This week sees the launch of Heartland: The Complete First Season 4 Disc Set, on 4Digital Media. Nonstopmama has two box sets up for grabs.

Yee-haw! Oh, that’s wasn’t very horse whisper-y was it? Happy watching!

Grandpa in my Pocket DVD giveaway

March 12th, 2010

Grandpa in my Pocket DVDThis giveaway is now closed and the winners have been informed.

Do we have any fans of a certain shrinking Grandpa in the house? Next Monday, 15 March, sees the DVD release of Grandpa in my Pocket, the BAFTA-nominated CBBC show about the adventures of Jason and his Grandpa, who has a habit of ‘downsizing’ as duty calls.

Nonstopmama was offered an interview with actor James Bolan, who plays Grandpa (not so helpfully, in-house suggestions for questions ranged from “How do you make yourself so small?” to “Where do you buy your famous red cardis?”). Not sure he’d be impressed. So we said thanks very much for the kind offer of a giveaway.

We have five copies of Grandpa in my Pocket, The Magic Shrinking Cap to giveaway.

Tess Daly The Baby Diaries Giveaway

March 4th, 2010

Tess Daly The Baby DiariesGiveaway closed at midnight on Sunday 21 March 2010.

The lovely Tess Daly was one of nonstopmama’s first ‘Five minutes with …’ interviewees, back in November last year (read the post here). To celebrate the launch of her new book, The Baby Diaries, we have five copies to give away.

Full of personal recollections and anecdotes about Tess’ pregnancies and the births of daughters Phoebe and Amber, there are plenty of honest and practical insights covering all three trimesters and life during the first six months. And Strictly fans will be amused to hear about the tricks that Tess and the show’s stylist relied on to keep her second bump under wraps (opting for a ‘relaxed’ floaty number finally gave the game away, prompting a flood of text messages after the show aired!).

The Times Destinations Show 2010 Giveaway

January 29th, 2010

The Colloseum, Rome, with the Destinations ShowThis giveaway closed at midnight Tuesday 2 February 2010.

A last minute up-for-grabs: the Destinations Holiday & Travel Show, presented by The Times, has kindly given nonstopmama 10 tickets (each one admits two people) to the exhibition, taking place at Earl’s Court from 4-7 February (um, next week, in other words).

The UK’s favourite holiday and travel show, the exhibition offers the opportunity to browse getaway options from a wide range of travel companies and explore ideas to suit all budgets and tastes, from exotic adventures to city breaks (when in Rome … put your back out and have to come home, in the case of my other half. Memorable holiday, if not in the way we’d hoped).

Meanwhile, travel personalities including Kate Humble, John Simpson and Julia Bradbury are scheduled to be at the Meet The Expert Theatres during the week (check timetables here).
