My beauty secrets, with Margo Marrone

What are your everyday make-up must-haves? 

I love wearing make-up. It makes me feel so much better about myself and I do have a full 10 minute routine. Since I’m in my forties, I think I’ve earned at least 10 minutes a day and as I get older, I am sure it will get longer!

I always use a sheer foundation blended with tiny sparkles for a dewy look – I’m not a huge fan of matte. I then use blush on the apples of my cheeks and highlighter on my cheekbones, upper lip and on the bridge of my nose to make them more defined.

For my eyes, I use eyeliner – I’m a fan of kitten eyes or a black, smoky look as I find both so feminine – with mascara on curled lashes, and some lip gloss (below, High Shine Lip Plump in Petal, £17.86). I only use Organic Glam so I know that everything is good for my skin and looks natural but better.

How do you look after your hair, and style it in a hurry? 

Shampoo and conditioner makes such a difference to my coarse, frizzy hair, so I make sure I use a rich one that puts moisture back into my hair.

I also use a few drops of Rosehip oil on damp hair to keep the frizz at bay and then use a fabulous dry-as-you-shine hairdryer by Babyliss.

I also love to spray perfume in my hair. That way people can smell it all day when you say hello. Finally, for an evening out , I recommend mixing a bit of shimmer powder with your hair gel and applying this to your hair. Your hair will shimmer all night!

Any bodycare favourites?

Buffed and moisturised skin always looks its best. My two favourite products are body scrubs and body oils. Our Seaweed, Lemon & Eucalyptus Body Scrub (£37.96, below) is divine. My other favourite is the Rose & Jasmine Body Oil (£32.95) for dry, dehydrated skin.

Nails: nude, bright or au naturel?!

I’m wild when to comes to nails and would even paint each nail a different colour. Right now, I’m wearing pale blue on my toes and coral and fucshia on my hands. Why settle for one colour?!

Any beauty indulgences you try and make time for?

My favourite treatment is a luxurious pedicure, where the feet are soaked, scrubbed, massaged , filed and painted. Of course, the products make all the difference to the experience. I feel so good afterwards.

What are the best beauty tricks you’ve ever been shown?

I was taught how to use bronzer to sculpt my face: apply it to the neck and under the chin and jawline and you instantly become slimmer! Applied to the sides of the nose, it slims the nose and using highlighter at the same time on the bridge and cheekbones accentuates everything.

When I found out that Marylin Monroe used five shades of lipstick, lipliner and gloss to achieve her perfect pout, I suddenly felt better about my tricks. I’m yet to try five shades of red but, well, if it was good enough for Marylin …
