When mama of three Renée Elliott founded Planet Organic - the one-stop shop for all things organic – in the mid-nineties, she never imagined that she’d end up authoring a series of successful cookbooks, too. But, five London shops and three books down the line, that’s exactly what’s happened (and we have two signed copies of the latest, Me, You and the Kids Too: The Ultimate Time-Saving Cookbook – Every Recipe Feeds the Whole Family, to give away at nonstopmama!).
For natural beauty buffs, along with a wide variety of organic, in-season fresh food, Planet Organic also stocks a fantastic range of must-have, all-natural skincare, body care and make-up brands, including Green People, Jurlique, Neom and Dr Haushka.
American-born Renée now lives in Italy with her husband and bambini and I’m just thrilled that she’s taken time out to share her natural beauty secrets with nonstopmama!
My beauty secrets, with Renée Elliott
What are your everyday make-up must-haves?
The Green People Sun Lotion SPF25 is a must every day in the Tuscan sun. Italians say you should worry about the ‘r’ months February, March, April, September, October, November, December, because the sun is coming in at a different slant.
The Sophyto Restorative Toner (below) is key to this wonderful new range. I am working my way through their products and have fallen in love with this.
How do you look after your hair, and style it in a hurry?
If I don’t have time to run out to my Italian hairdresser for a wash, dry and lovely curls, I twist my hair up in the back for a more elegant look. I also have some beautiful flower clips from Accessorise.
Any bodycare favourites, products you love?
Also, Jurlique Rose Moisture Cream - rose is great for women, inside and out. I use rose cream on the outside and make rose ambrosia (from the Galaca roses in my garden) for me and my girls’ insides.
Nails: nude, bright or au naturel?!
On my hands, nude – I’m chopping too many vegetables to keep them looking good with varnish! For toes – pretty, but pale peachy pink. I go for feminine as opposed to shocking colours.
Any beauty indulgences you try and make time for?
I love massage and go once a week if I can fit it in. In the winter, we soak in the local hot sulphur springs once a week with the kids. And I’m a sucker for a pedi, which I treat myself to occasionally.
What are the best beauty tricks you’ve ever been shown?
A girlfriend of mine, Julia, who used to be a make-up artist, taught me to put a little brightening powder on the crest of the cheekbone.
Also, I always massage face cream over my jaw and down my neck to keep the skin moisturised, massaged and supple. It was because years ago, there was a woman doing a training at Planet Organic and she had a theory that men’s necks didn’t age or sag as quickly as womens’ because of all the shaving and massaging of the neck area. I thought it made sense.
The best trick/tip, though, is that for beautiful skin, eat organic whenever possible and eat really well most of the time to give your body the best ingredients to keep all of you beautiful.
Thanks so much for the great natural beauty tips, Renée!
