My beauty secrets, with Anna-Marie Solowij
What are your everyday make-up must-haves?
Estée Lauder Double Wear Concealer – immovable, once it’s on.
Bit of eyeliner pencil – current favourite is by Clarins, nice and soft and easy to smudge with a finger or brush.
Mascara – I’m ‘dating’ about four different mascaras at the moment: Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes for big, separated lashes; Max Factor Xperience for a clean, natural look; Lancome Hypnose because it’s just all round brilliant and a new Bobbi Brown Long Wear formula which is nice and liquid, like a lash tint.
Blusher – I love BeneFit’s ChaCha Tint because it lasts well and I’m convinced a peach-toned blush tones down a high coloured complexion.
Brows – my current focus, given that my hair is getting lighter (greyer/blonder?!). I’m pencilling in length and with a Smashbox Brow Pencil - well-shaped nib, dry formula and good, non-orange-y colour.
How do you look after your hair, and style it in a hurry?
Aah, the Solowij upsweep has been a dependable trick since I was about 13. I have always worn my hair up and I’m currently wearing something between a top knot and a bun – face lift and climate control in one.
I use a Mason Pearson brush for a clean finish. I’ve never been confident about products but I do like Batiste Dry Shampoo to add texture (and to stretch a blow dry) and Elnett for control.
Any bodycare favourites?
I hate body scrubs – they generally make my skin sore, but I love Darphin‘s Nourishing Smoothing Body Scrub, with is an essential oil gel with plant extracts and non-scratchy bits that are easy to clean from the bath. Another favourite is REN’s Guerande Salt Exfoliating Balm which is rich and luscious and smells wonderful.
I’m a big fan of Bliss products: Lemon & Sage Body Butter in particular.
I use This Works Dry Leg Oil and Perfect Heels, both summer essentials
Nails: nude, bright or au naturel?!
Super-bright: neon, flouro – the bolder the better. Currently wearing Face Stockholm neon orange.
Any beauty indulgences you try and make time for?
Er, no. Don’t have the time but in my dreams I would have a weekly body treatment at Ushvani spa, where the therapists are exceptional; a monthly facial with Anastasia Achilleos, who is superb and always makes my skin look incredible.
What are the best beauty tricks you’ve ever been shown ?
I had a brilliant hair cut at Rossanno Ferretti the other week. They cut invisible layers into the middle underneath section of hair that give you natural volume without losing the length – genius!
