My beauty secrets, with Petra Strand of Pixi
What are your top beauty tips for nonstopmamas?
My best advice is to use a great primer that suits your skin. Large pores, uneven skin tone and dullness can all be fixed by the right primer! Also, do not use powder, it never, ever looks good- on anybody.
Also, always curl your lashes. All mascara works best on curled opened eyes.
Drink lots of water to plump your skin, because with hydrated skin your make-up stays on longer!
And always take your make-up off. If you don’t have a make-up remover, use olive oil.
To “wake up” the skin, massage your face and lips in the shower with a flannel every morning. This kick-starts the circulation and helps with de-puffing!
What are your everyday make-up must-haves?
I always start my make-up with the Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer, which evens out my sun damage and adds radiance to tired skin. It is also very hydrating, which I need as I travel so much. I then use the Illuminating Tint & Conceal for a bit of natural cover, SPF, minerals and the concealer!
I use an Eye lash curler (by Shu Uemura, below). In the summer, I tint my lashes so there’s no need for mascara
On my cheeks, I use the Pixi Natural Cheek Gel in Rosy (below) for daytime, and Bronze Bloom Trio for night time.
For lips, I keep it simple and natural for summer with our Magic Tink Tint – a nourishing balm crayon that leaves a pretty pink stain when the balms wears off.
For night time, I smudge my eyes with the Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen in Brown or Black, or, if I’m somewhere sunny and tanned, I line bottom line with Teal (below). It’s a very pretty eye with a bronzed face on holiday.
How do you look after your hair, and style it in a hurry?
My hair is a nightmare! It gets frizzy and that’s not a good look, so I wash it with a very nourishing shampoo – my favourite is by Kérastase.
Then I put some Aveda Smooth Infusion all over and put it into a tight bun to dry. Once dry, it’s smooth and beach-wavy – for a while – then I get annoyed with it and always end up putting it into a ponytail!
Any bodycare favourites?
I make my own body scrub with sea salt and olive oil.
For a quick body boost, I use a self-tanner on face, legs, arms & décolletage before a holiday or an event. Right now, in my bag is Sisley Self Tanning Hydrating Facial Skin Care.
Nails: nude, bright or au naturel?!
All of them!! I change my nails often – it’s such an easy and inexpensive way to update your look.
Right now, its all about neon pinks and corals for me. Every shade of coral looks great this summer, both on lips and nails.
Any beauty indulgences you try and make time for ?
I’m not a big fan of sitting still for long! But, if I have time, I will have a massage and when in London, I always do brow shaping and lash tinting at Peter Jones on the King’s Rd.
I often do my mani myself, but I do like a good pedi!
- Thanks SO much for all the FAB tips and tricks, Petra!!
