Since the British sun has got its hat back on (yippeee!) and many a nonstopmama will be off on hols over the next few weeks – at home or away – I thought I’d do a quick post on protecting hair in the sun.
If, like me, your hair is (erm, very) coloured or chemically treated in any way, it will be especially vulnerable to colour fade and becoming a little frazzled in general.
Good tricks to help prevent damage include treating tresses to a specialist UV protective styling spray, such as Paul Mitchell’s Colour Protect Locking Spray (£12.50, below).
Most haircare ranges offer styling mists with sunscreen, and specialist pre-sun and aftercare treatments, too, such as the pricey but much-loved Kérastase, loved by top stylists and recommended by Pixi’s now California-based Petra Strand in our interview last week!
Applying a leave-in conditioner, or even a deep conditioner, to hair at the start of the day, and then twisting it into a soft ponytail or simple bun is a great way to give locks protection and a bit of a deep conditioning treat at the same time.
Last, but by no means least, don’t forget your hat – the bigger and floppier, the more fabulous!!
