Aren’t you loving all the beautiful flowers wherever you turn right now?
From jewel-coloured tulips to the arrival of daffodil season …
I love the promise of a new bunch with all the buds still tightly closed …
And in fashion, too – there’s the flower halo headband trend (so pretty!) to the daisy prints in full bloom over clothes, accessories and even at the beauty counter (more on that to come – watch this space!).
So, I was thrilled when Flowers Of Holland invited me to take their new Facebook challenge, to guess a friend’s favourite blooms to be in with a chance of winning a bunch of them (the flowers. Not more friends – although that’s always lovely, too! :)).
Among my closest friends who I truly count my blessings to have in my life – the sort you absolutely know you can call from anywhere, at any time in a moment of celebration or crisis, and they know they can do the same with you – is Juliet.
We met on the maternity ward after having our first babies (who, of course, will ALWAYS be babies, no matter how big and tall they get!). She was incredibly loud, had lots of visitors and seemed to be laughing all. The. Time.
She took it upon herself to keep everyone’s spirits up through those what-time-zone-are-we-in? first nights – even though it was all new for her, too.
Years later, while the effects of sleep deprivation have (almost) worn off, Juliet is one of my closest friends.
She juggles her busy family and work life with her volunteer role as a trustee for the wonderful YUYO charity, regularly visiting the two Ugandan primary schools it supports – Yurie Yoshimi and New Eden - which have an amazing impact on the wellbeing and education of its pupils (many of whom have been orphaned by or are living with HIV or AIDS and disabilities).
With her family, friends and fellow trustees, Juliet regularly visits the schools and tirelessly fundraises for the cause (quite literally. She ran the London Marathon dressed as Wonder Woman!).
And, yes, she LOVES her flowers! Any excuse to give someone a bunch, and she’s all over it …
How pretty are these roses, beautifully colour-blocked in their buckets?
Closer to summer, peonies are another of my personal favourites, for their total prettiness and tissue paper-like delicacy. Or ‘beautiful pom poms’ as Coralie of the lovely Tea Time In Wonderland blog, who tagged me earlier this week to take up a Flowers of Holland challenge, brilliantly calls them!
So, to the challenge questions about Juliet! I PROMISE you I didn’t confer. Which will become obvious.
In fact, I am sure this will be her expression when she reads my answers (yikes!) …
• What is my friend’s favourite cafe?
She’d probably say one from her travels. But she loves her Italian coffee and dolce, so I’ll say any Caffè Nero (to my Starbucks!).
• What’s my friends’ favourite place to shop?
Juliet’s such a brilliant bargain hunter. I’m going with TK Maxx. She’s found many a red carpet-worthy party frock there which they’ve pretty much paid her for snapping up.
• What’s my friend’s favourite city?
She travels a lot, so this is sooo hard! London is very special to her – last year, she had the thrill of being on the team heading up VIP hospitality at the Olympics. So it holds a very special place in heart. I think Australia and New Zealand are hugely special to her, too. Argh … OK, let’s say London.
• What’s my friend’s favourite movie?
She loves a good rom com, like Letters To Juliet (funnily enough!) which we watched together and is set in Italy (one of her favourite places). And she loves a family Disney classic with a good moral to the tale. Hmmm ….
• What’s my best friend’s favourite flower?
Calla Lily. She said, all confidently …
• What’s my best friend’s favourite fragrance?
Obsession. Every time. You can smell it, even after she’s left. It was once said, after a visit, that “the cat smells of Juliet”.
As part of the challenge, I’m nominating two bloggers to take part in the fun: the lovely Neilufahr of Cherie City (caution: looking at her blog will cause serious wanderlust) and the gorgeous Lisa of Glowology, fellow mama and beauty writer (we’ve kept in touch having worked together many moons ago! Let’s just say, we did body-con lycra skirts the first time around).
If you’re a blogger and want to join in the fun, leave a link in the Comments below as I’d love to check out your post and others can, too!
Either way, not take part in the Flowers of Holland competition to be in with a chance to win your friend’s favourite blooms?
